Linda Henderson and Brenda McAuliffe are experienced BACP accredited Counsellors / Psychotherapists. They are in private practice in Blackheath and are currently working 5 days a week. They both have founded their practice on a Jungian model, working with symbols, dreams, metaphors and images, but as integrative counsellors they are trained to work with the client’s preference for modality and pace – which may include CBT, Gestalt and other models that bring an empathic working relationship with the client.
The Value of the knowledge of Alexander Technique and Yoga as Complimentary Disciplines
Their awareness of the need for the client to feel grounded and centred in themselves to grow comes not just from our counselling training, which is extensive, but from our experience as Alexander Technique Teachers and Yoga Teachers. We believe the need for our client to feel self-compassion, self-acceptance is paramount to the healing process and our work is underpinned by the belief in showing compassion and kindness towards oneself.
All 3 disciplines bring knowledge, specific insights together with respect and understanding of the instinctual nature from each tradition which help us as therapists to navigate a client to find their own reality - a sense of their Real Self - without reference to others – and most importantly help them live it!
Linda is still currently teaching Postural Yoga a fusion of Alexander Technique and Iyengar Yoga. The Alexander Technique’s contribution in teaching effortless balanced movement without stress and tension brings a quality of exploration and relaxed awareness in the poses, it also generates an atmosphere in the class of non-competitiveness and interaction.
